RIP Poly Styrene

Poly Styrene is one of my heroes. She sang about the future, about the world in Dayglo colours, and about thinking for yourself.
She was a shy, sweet woman who sang from the heart.
I was so taken with her music that my last name is from one of her songs.

To lose her to cancer is just wrong, but I know she'd see it as a new adventure.... out into the cosmos.

Thank you for your beautiful music, humour, and charm Poly.

and now here's something we can do to help someone living with cancer...
Jake Black, Supergirl writer, needs to pay his medical bills.. donate..even a dollar.. help him and his family. Make a difference.

Love to you all.

Tanks for all this fish...

Hopefully someone out there will appreciate that lame misappropriation of Douglas Adams fine work..

I've just wrapped up drawing 'TANK GIRL - Bad Wind Rising'... It's felt like a bit of a marathon, up a hill, with a shed on my back.. but unbelievably... It's done.

Finishing a series is always satisfying, and yet oddly anticlimatic.. You work feverishly for months, and than send it all to your Publishers... and it just seems to disappear into the ether...  No fanfare, no hurrays,, just 'send'... and then turn off your computer, and attempt to clean all the chocolate wrappers off your desk.

I hope you'll enjoy the final issue of TANK GIRL - Bad Wind Rising.. it's  pretty mental.

This'll be the last Tank Girl I'll be drawing for a while... The nest series TANK GIRL - CARIOCA is the long awaited series drawn by the legend that is Mick McMahon, a man who's defined British Comic art, and is a huge influence on both Jamie, Alan, and I.

TG - Carioca wiill  be solicited later this summer, and I for one am very much looking forward to it. (and still secretly hoping Titan Books will ask me to do a cover...hint, cough, nudge, thump.)

Alan then has some of his own top secret projects to work on,  so you have some treats in store!
I hope we'll be back with more Tank Girl soon... but that's also up to you guys.. we need people to buy the books.. we need to make a living at this..and need your support. I love working with Alan, it's been a dream come true, and I hope he'll want us to do more Tank Girl stuff soon.. If you want us to... be vocal, demand your shop order the books, tell people about them too! Spread the word.

I, in the meantime will be working with 3A, Ashley Wood's company, helping him on his plans to take over the world, with an army of plastic Popbots, Judges, and other characters!

I'll also be working on my own project, which I hope to have online by the end of the summer. I'll be doing it entirely independently.. No publishers, no backers.. just me.

I'm hoping to have it as a free App, and Download, and then to collect it as limited edition books (signed and sketched) every 2 or 3 months, so readers will have a real collector's item, and hopefully something a bit special.

I'll also do cool merch..... Tshirts, stickers, bags, toys, posters, and other stuff you previously didn't realise you couldn't live without!
I'll really need your support on this.. It's a risk..  I don't have some secret back up plan..I want to make cool comics, for people like me.. who like irreverent silliness, sharp sticks, and death masks.

I'm really excited... and I hope you all will be too...

To finish..I'm gonna do my Academy awards speech..

A massive Thank You to Alan and Jamie (for letting me play with their toys), Christian Krank (a man who's so unflaggingly been enthusiastic), Garry Leach, Sofie Dodgson, Lori Petty, Steve White, Ashley Wood, Matt Smith, Chris Ryall, Denton Tipton, Drew Gill, and all the other fine people at Image Comics, IDW Comics, Titan Books, Suicide Girls, and Ankama Editions.
and thank you to all the support we've had from everyone who's read the books... I'm never not overwhelmed at how generous and kind our readers are.

We are the luckiest fuckers on the Planet.

Love and tanks to you all....
Over and Out!

Frakkin' Toasters...

Whenever we play Battlestar Galactica, Sofie is ALWAYS the frakkin' toaster Cylon traitor..this has made me increasingly paranoid...
I've concluded that Sofie, and Muggins (her cat) are in on some 8 bit takeover of the world...  or at least colluding to beat me in every single game.. leaving me a quivering wreck.
I must do my bit to warn others...

Time machine

Inside the Time machine, Jet Girl (disguised as Tankie, obviously) spends some quality time with Doctor Gonch... where they discuss the formation of time..and their first names.
Only a few pages left.. gonna have this issue finished by the end of the weekend..then T-shirts to design, a cover for another comic, and lots of tot designs with some good friends of mine!!

Life is so good.

Hope you're all having a fabulous weekend.

Lille Comics Festival November 2011

A way off still.. but I’ll be at the Lille Comics come to France..let’s get drunk!

Suicide Girls 7 - 'A Rock and Roll Suicide'

Time takes a cigarette, puts it in your mouth
You pull on your finger, then another finger, then your cigarette
The wall-to-wall is calling, it lingers, then you forget
Ohhh how how how, you're a rock 'n' roll suicide

This was our final Suicide Girls /Tank Girl pin up... and happily it's also a tribute to my beautiful friend Soo Catwoman.

Soo's the original Punk Girl, combining art, image, style and attitude... and she's one of the most caring charming people you could hope to meet.
Her daughter Dion runs DOTTY REBEL, making Soo Catwoman shirts (Just like Tankie's wearing in this illustration).. it's a true family run Punk rock business..and I'm happy to support it, and I myself bought one of her fab Soo shirts.

Dion, and her brother Shem also have a band called Good Weather Girl.. go check them out.

I hope you've enjoyed our little recap of our work with Suicide Girls..they were fun to do..and I hope we'll do more some time soon.

Day 6 of our Suicide Girls / Tank Girl Pin up retrospective!

This little one's called ' MEDITATIONS IN GREEN', and was drawn after an afternoon sitting on the canal lock with Sofie... I'd been discussing wanting a beehive.

Oddly enough it's perfect for this lovely Spring day too.

SUICIDE GIRLS #5 - The Bunyip

Day 5 of our mini epic Suicide Girls / Tank Girl mash up a gogo...

Tankie's lying on the back of a Bunyip.. a mythological aussie critter.. and it's a tip of the hat to one of my favourite childhood books 'The Bunyip of Berkeley's Creek'.. a beautiful little book, which really influenced my art when I was young.

Tankie supports CBA UK!

Tankie's the Pin up girl for the UK's Comic Book Alliance at Kapow Comic Con this weekend!

Custom Kigurumi!

For my Birthday Custom Kigurumi made me a Stiffy the Kangaroo hat! He's the bad guy in our new TANK GIRL series 'BAD WIND RISING'!
Massive thanks to Ceridwen Brown and Sofie Dodgson for making this for me!  The Die Mortal Room FTW!
<3 KangaRufus .. Tank Pencil Botherer

This was a test piece done for a Garth Ennis book.. Which Garth really liked... but then I couldn't work the series into my TG work schedule, and had to pass on it.

I really wanted to do it,as my Grandad was in the RAF, and worked with Wellington bombers.
My Grandad'd sit and tell me what all the airplanes were in my Air Ace Digest comics when I was a kiddie.. I loved hearing his stories.

Tankie - Suicide Girls Illustration number 3!

Day(glo) 3 of our recap of our collaboration with the brazen tattooed girlies of Suicide Girls...
This was inspired by watching Star Wars at Christmas.. and my childhood dream to have a gaffee stick and rob passerbys with the Tusken Raiders on Tattooine. I would've made a great Tusken raider..I've got the face for it..

Day One and a half/two of the Tankie/Suicide Girls Illos..

This on was called ‘Time bomb’ after the DeeDee Ramone song.. it was done for Christmas 2009.
It was our take on Santa dropping presents.

Art by Rufus, Poem by Alan.

Over the next week I’ll post an illo a day that we originally did for the SUICIDE GIRLS site in 2009.
We did a TG illo with a poem a month for 7 months… I’d do a random illo, and Alan would riff off it and write a poem.
This was the first one..apologies for the shite lettering..that’s my fault.
We always meant for these to end up in one of the books, but they never fit in anywhere (Yet).

Final countdown

Well, I'm nearly finished Issue 4 of TANK GIRL - BAD WIND RISING...
I thought you might like to see a page where we seperated out elements...  In this sequence, Pattacake and Nigel arrive in the main dream cave.
All the rock art is done on a seperate layer, so Sofie can colour things easily, and we can edit or shift stuff about!
Right..I'd better finish this issue!
